Super-size it: Too good to ignore

We were commissioned to imagine and design the first air commuting city from scratch.

Well, in deed we self-commissioned this interesting issue.

Of course as a natural first step in the process, we commenced to observe carefully the bird’s flight, especially the swallow’s flight. Rapidly we imagine scaling up the size of the swallow, from 12 cm to 204 cm, which is a 17 times factor. Well you should take into account the fact the swallow weight is almost 4 gr per cm, therefore a hypothetical 204 cm supertall swallow will weight just 816 g. Even so that level of detail doesn’t matter right now, since we were more interesting in the topological characteristics of their surrounding environment than in the swallow biomechanical design itself.

So in order to allow the new supersized swallow to flight, we have to super-size also their landscape, both the horizontal and the vertical scale by a factor of 17. (I know, so simplistic but we are starting from scratch).

Basically, instead of thinking to design the future flying devices (flying cars perhaps) to adapt to the existing metropolis, we are doing just the opposite , we are rising the question: how will looks like a future metropoli which an air commuting system?

Our first intuition in this matter, is that it won’t be possible to design just a flying car to get adapted to the current standard city, but that the process will involve the design of new type of cities to be able to be fully functional with an air commuting system.

At first glance, we believe that the future air commuting cities will be super-sized in both scales horizontal and vertical, perhaps by a factor of 20.

So, this is our bet of how would looks like a future air commuting city: you don’t need roads anymore right? Therefore the neighborhoods will be like giant air parking condos surrounded by huge green areas and the main industrial area will be located 60 km away approximately, connected with your neighborhood by an air commuting system which will allow you to commute in 25 minutes, not traffic jam guarantee!
